Our mission is to be the go-to platform for discovering, supporting, and celebrating the Portuguese community, while helping preserve the rich cultural traditions of Portugal.
João’s List começou como uma forma de conectar amantes da culinária portuguesa com os seus locais favoritos, e cresceu para se tornar uma plataforma que apoia todos os negócios de propriedade portuguesa nos Estados Unidos. Seja uma padaria, boutique, prestador de serviços ou loja virtual, buscamos destacar as pessoas e os lugares que mantêm viva a cultura portuguesa — um negócio de cada vez.
Our Story
We’re Carlos and Melissa, a couple of food lovers with deep roots in Portuguese culture. Originally from New Jersey and Massachusetts, we were lucky to grow up surrounded by the sights, smells, and flavors of Portugal. When we moved to North Carolina in 2018, we quickly realized something was missing — the vibrant Portuguese food scene we loved.
At first, we searched for any local spots that reminded us of home. And guess what? We weren’t the only ones! We kept meeting people just like us — craving the taste of Portugal and eager to support Portuguese-owned businesses here in the U.S.
That’s when we had an idea: What if we built a place where the Portuguese-American community could come together, discover new businesses, and keep our traditions alive?
And so, João’s List was born.
What started as a food-focused project has now grown into a full directory of Portuguese-owned businesses across the country—from restaurants, bakeries, and markets to real estate agents, salons, online shops, and more.
João’s List is more than just a directory—it’s a movement to celebrate Portuguese culture, support small businesses, and connect our community coast to coast.
