Our Story: From Passion to Platform
We’re Carlos and Melissa, a couple of food lovers with deep Portuguese roots. Originally from New Jersey and Massachusetts, we grew up surrounded by the sights, smells, flavors, and traditions of Portuguese culture.
When we moved to North Carolina in 2018, we quickly realized something was missing—the vibrant Portuguese food scene we had grown up with.
At first, we searched for local spots that reminded us of home. Along the way, we discovered something bigger: a community of Portuguese Americans across the country who shared the same passion for culture, food, and connection.
That’s when the idea came to life: create a place where Portuguese businesses and communities could come together—a place to discover, support, and grow.
And so, João’s List was born.
What started as a passion project has grown into a community-driven network connecting Portuguese-owned businesses, professionals, creators, organizations, and communities across North America.
Today, João’s List is growing beyond a traditional directory—connecting our community with everything from restaurants and markets to online shops, creators, organizations, professional services, and trusted resources in Portugal.
